SUMMARY:VENTURE BRIEFING @ FHNW MUTTENZ
DESCRIPTION:Target audience:\n\nStudents\, PhD\, Postdoc\, Academic Staff & Alumni\, Entrepreneurs\, Interested in Entrepreneurship\n\nWhy attend?\n\nCoaching\, Inspiration\, Networking\n\nProgram\n***Note – as this is an event over lunchtime\, we will offer food and drinks for all registered participants (free of charge)*** \nTake a startup deep dive an join us for lunch! The Venture Briefing event series is designed to help students with an intent to pursue entrepreneurship take their first steps towards building a successful company. \n \nThe event features a keynote speech from successful entrepreneur Frédéric Schuind\, CEO and Founder of Spirecut SA. \nFrédéric Schuind\, MD\, PhD\, is an academic orthopaedic surgeon with double citizenship\, Swiss and Belgian. He was head of the department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Erasme academic hospital (Universite? libre de Bruxelles) and full professor of orthopaedics and of surgery in Brussels\, until he became emeritus in October 2020. Having relocated in Switzerland\, he has founded Swibrace AG to develop a new paradigm of treatment of fractures using 3D-printed braces. F. Schuind believed that with improved anatomical bracing\, it could be possible to achieve equivalent or better results than after surgery to fix the fracture\, avoiding the pain and complications of the operation. Swibrace has developed and validated its products with Swiss academic partners\, through the support of Innosuisse\, till the present stage of a design-protected light brace\, now on the Swiss market\, with a patent covering an original method of production\, granted in Europe and in the USA\, and the necessary regulatory in place. When F. Schuind was still professor in Belgium\, one of his collaborators came with the idea to operate common indications of hand surgery under a pin hole skin opening\, under ultrasound guidance. Spirecut AG\, a spin-off of Swibrace\, was then founded and has developed\, patented and certified Spirecut’s Sono-Instruments\, which are now internationally sold\, after having received CE-marking under MDR and FDA-listing. F. Schuind\, coming from a family of successful Swiss entrepreneurs established in Belgium\, will explain the challenges that faces an academic doctor\, after a long surgical career\, to develop a company\, and will insist on the supports he founded to achieve his projects in Switzerland – academic support\, and daily support of his young and dynamic collaborators. \n  \nAbout Spirecut: The Muttenz-based company’s focus is the treatment of trigger finger and carpal tunnel syndrome\, which affect one in seven in their lifetimes. With Spirecut’s patented instruments\, surgeons achieve greater accuracy\, leading to better patient recovery and results. The company has been a 2021 winner of of Venture Kick\, as well as of support by Innosuisse\, swissnex\, Switzerland Innovation\, MassChallenge\, Basel Landschaft\, HEIA-FR\, Innovate UK\, Swiss Innovation Challenge\, SITEM\, Basel Area\, and global nerve foundation. \n  \nFrédéric will talk about his startup and share details about his journey building a successful company. He will also help answer some of your questions during the Q&A session: \n\nHow to become an entrepreneur?\nHow to validate my idea?\nHow to fund my idea?\nHow to find help to bring my idea to life?\n\nYou will also be introduced to different support programs available to new entrepreneurs: \n\nVenture Kick: up to CHF 150\,000 pre-seed capital for business development\nInnoBooster: up to CHF 150\,000 grant to accelerate market entry\nFirst Ventures: up to CHF 150\,000 financial support and tailored coaching program for University of Applied Science students\n\nThank you to the Gebert Rüf Stiftung for supporting this event.
